Week One...Check!

As of today I've officially been here for an entire week!! I apologize for the lack of updates over the last few days. My internet access has been limited, but we're working on it.

Only 7 days, yet somehow it seems like longer. Maybe because I've jumped right in and we've been going almost nonstop all week long! I arrived last Saturday and spent Sunday and Monday acclimating myself to the time change. On Tuesday I went to the first of 6 clubs that will meet each week. All of the clubs are led in Portuguese, so by the end of the week my list of new words was getting pretty long. I have a feeling that the repetitiveness will help me learn Portuguese pretty quickly. One of our clubs on Wednesdays is held at the camp. There has been a lot of progress since I was here last spring!

The new wall and entrance to camp!

Leveling off the ground to build a soccer field.
The newly covered meeting area and handicap accessible ramp to the bathrooms.

On Thursday, the real adventure began. Thursday morning I moved in with Editie (pronounced EhDeet). Since she doesn't speak any English at all, I'm quickly learning how to communicate in Portuguese (along with some pointing and gestures). My brain feels a little fried from all this processing. Trying to understand what others say to me and trying to figure out how to respond is a constant challenge, but I know it will be worth it in the end. All in all it's been a great week, and I'm definitely looking forward to the next 51 (at least)!

My bedroom.

The view from my window! You can't really tell from this picture, but that 's the Atlantic Ocean off in the distance!!
